SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE MEETING

  • Minutes of SJSAA Scholarship Committee meeting held May 3, 2011

    The meeting started 5pm, the following members were present:

    Mr. Edwin J. Piano
    Ms. Lilia Amor
    Mr. Sunday Ibay
    Mr. Benjamin Florencio
    Ms. Judy T. Pazon
    Councilor Eduardo Piano
    Ms. Myrna Nuñez
    Ms. Viviene Advincula

    SJSAA President Edwin Piano presided over the meeting, he gave committe members background and purpose of the SJSAA scholarship project.

    The following were agreed upon during the meeting:

    A. Scholarship grants will be provided to deserving Elementary, High School and College Students at an amount to be determined by the Board of Trustees. These scholars are preferably children or dependents of SJS alumni. The scholarship for elementary level is also open to students/beneficiaries at public schools.

    B. Qualifications:

    1. Any natural born Filipino citizen, preferably resident of Olongapo City
    2. The family’s annual gross income does not exceed P100,000 and only one beneficiary per family will be allowed
    3. Not receiving scholarship grant and/or any form of financial support from any individual and/or entity.
    4. General Average is not lower than 82% or 2.3
    5. No incomplete grades
    6. No dropped subjects

    C. Screening and Selection Process

    The Board of Trustees decides if and when a scholarshp slot becomes available. The information shall be immediately disseminated to the members to perticipate in the search of potential candidates for open slots in the Program.

    The member/officer who submits a nominee is responsible for conducting a background check of his/her nominee and should submit/endorse the nomination with other required documents to the head of the scholarship committee:

    1.) Duly accomplished application form together with all the required documents
    2.) Applicant’s written essay (Letter of Intent) in English explaining why he/she deserves to become a scholar
    3.) Letter of recommendation vouching for the character and qualification of his nominee
    4.) Clear copy of F138 or 4th year High School report card
    5.) Attach Certificate of passing the entrance test at St. Joseph College
    6.) Attach photo copy of the 2010 Income Tax Return or Certificate of Non-Filing

    D. The Scholarship Committee will make the final screening and submit recommendation for BOT approval.

    E. For college scholar, he/she must be willing to undergo a one month training with allowance. The college scholar who will be selected will man the SJSAA office in SJC Campus (maintain its cleanliness, organize the filing system, communicate with officers and alumni, answer phone/internet inquiries, etc) for 2 hours each day Monday to Friday and act as member of the SJSAA Secretariat.
